I have an OLD mule deer buck in the garage. He was with six does and they got him killed — just about shot him off one. Antlers are very dark and curled in like a white tail’s. Teeth are well-worn. This guy is going to jerky 100%.
Watched about 30 cow elk paw through the snow for forage about 1200 yards away. Two hills away from the nearest road. Too far to shoot and too far to tug as the day is winding down. That would be two guys making two round trips pulling a quartered elk in 45-degree-angle hill-country. It’s hard enough just walking that — pulling 150 pounds in 8 inches of snow — in the dark — is a really big challenge.
6800 feet of altitude in the Rockies in November makes for a winter wonderland everywhere you look. The Lord is good — all the time.
